Hypnotherapy Tooting – What is IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
IBS or Irritable bowel syndrome is a painful and difficult condition to life with. Sufferers experiment episodes of abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhoea, bloating and wind. Other symptoms include muscle pain, backache, headaches or nausea. The cause of IBS is unknown although it is widely accepted that stress and anxiety have a large impact in how the gut function and the coordination of bowel movements.
The use of hypnotherapy to improve the symptoms of IBS and its effectiveness has been widely documented in numerous researches. The first research and evidence on hypnotherapy and IBS dates from 1980 http://www.ibshypnosis.com/IBSresearch.html.
In March 2010 BBC News documented how Dr Valori, of Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, had been referring his patients for Hypnotherapy since 1990’s and how he had never looked back.
In September 2010, Channel 4 “Embarrassing bodies” documented how the NHS consultant Peter Whorell believed that Hypnotherapy was the most effective treatment for IBS, with an 85% success rate.
The views above have been also reiterated by Dr Roland Valori, editor of Frontline Gastroenterology “It is clear to me that it has an amazing effect”
